The California College Promise Grant (CCPG), formerly known as the Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver, is a state financial assistance program offered through the California Community College system.
What does the CCPG do?
The CCPG waives all of a student’s enrollment fees. Whether you enroll in 1 unit or 20, it will waive all your enrollment fees. For in-state students, enrollment fees are $46 per unit. This means the CCPG saves the average full-time student (enrolled in 12 units) $552 per term.
How do I apply for the CCPG?
If you are a US citizen or eligible noncitizen, complete the FAFSA for the award year in which you would like your fees waived. If you are an undocumented student with AB 540 status, apply using the CA Dream Act Application (CADAA). Once we receive your FAFSA or CADAA (usually 3–10 days later), we will determine your eligibility and apply the CCPG.
Submitting a FAFSA/CADAA is by far the best method for applying for the CCPG as it is the most reliable method for ensuring your eligibility is determined correctly. However, if you are certain that you would not receive any other financial aid in addition to the CCPG, or if you do not wish to submit a FAFSA/CADAA, you may submit a CCPG-specific application. Who is eligible?
There are several methods for becoming eligible for the CCPG fee waiver.
Part A: Students receiving TANF/CalWORKs, SSI/SSP or General Assistance. Additional documentation is required. Eligibility is confirmed for independent students if the benefits are received by the student in their name and for dependent students if the parent(s) receive benefits as a primary source of income.
Part B: Students who meet low-income criteria. The income levels are adjusted annually and can be found on the Chancellor’s Office website.
Part C: Students whose FAFSA or CADAA application indicates an unmet financial need equal or greater than the enrollment fees for a full-time student (24 units).
Part D: Students who, at the time of enrollment, are homeless youths as defined in the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and are under 25 years of age.
